The graded ring of modular forms of genus 1 is a polynomial ring generated by the weight 4 and 6 Eisenstein series. In this talk, I will start with the preliminaries required to prove Igusa's theorem, the structure theorem for the ring of genus 2 Siegel modular forms, and sketch its proof.
