Abstract: Bestvina--Brady groups (BBGs) are subgroups of right-angled Artin groups (RAAGs), and both families of groups are defined by finite simple graphs. BBGs have been a rich source of examples of groups with exotic properties, making them interesting objects of study. This talk will address two isomorphism problems concerning BBGs: (1) Which BBGs are isomorphic to RAAGs? (2) Which pairs of graphs define isomorphic BBGs? Specifically, we will see how graph theory and matroid theory come into play in answering these questions. This is joint work with Lorenzo Ruffoni.
